Our daughter has been taking singing lessons with Helen since she was about 9 years old. She is now 14, and still attends weekly lessons with Helen. She has always been an avid lover of any sort of music and auditioned for the part of Annie in her primary school annual production. After the production it was apparent to her drama teacher that Emma had a potentially good singing voice and so we went in search of a vocal coach. Not knowing anything about this field myself as her parent I did’t know where to start looking, so it was by chance that I saw an advert in our local music shop for singing lessons and decided to give it go. I was dreading the singing teacher telling us that Emma really could’t sing as it would have broken her heart(and mine too!!) but they both came out smiling and Helen said that Emma had potential and that she had done very well. Quite soon after, Helen Advised us that she would be starting up her own business, in Wickford. It was a fair drive for us from South Woodham, but after discussions with Emma it was decided that we would keep with Helen as both Emma and myself had started to have a nice relationship with her, and more importantly Emma really liked her. As the months progressed so did Emma’s voice and so the competitions started. Since being with Helen, Emma has been actively involved within a drama group, playing parts in Oliver, Grease and Belles magical adventure as Mrs Potts. With the support of Helen she also encouraged Emma to enter the Basildon festival which meant an audition process and then singing live on stage. Emma won a 3 hour session in a recording studio and came home with her very own CD! While on holiday last year Emma also entered the junior talent competition and came first, winning a lovely trophy and £75, Emma’s winning had already been predicted by Helen after she recorded Emma singing “Somewhere over the rainbow” which is still my favorite song to date. Another competition Emma also entered was the Farleigh hospice “Search for a Star”. She was one of the youngest children to enter the competition and was up against some very tough opposition. . It was at the ‘Search for a Star’ Competition that Helen was able to come along personally and support Emma and as always it was me as mum that was the more critical, and Helen thought Emma should have been placed. I believe that all this would not have been possible without Helen’s continued support, which has seen Emma overcome her own personal hurdles along the way. Helen has always been very honest and professional, we have seen how her business has grown. Now she has her own studio and is able to record songs on to CD for us as we request them. I have been attending singing lessons with Helen for over two years. Each lesson is a pleasure to attend and something to look forward to. I awake in the morning elated, that this is the day for my singing lesson! Helen is a kind and considerate person, and a pleasure to be with. To me she is not only a teacher, but has become a close and lovely friend. Helen is completely honest giving both praise and light hearted criticism when I am not performing to my best standard. She always requires me to give my best in both singing, voice control and breathing exercises.
Helen also encouraged me to audition for the popular X Factor programme and, although I was unsuccessful, the whole experience was both enjoyable and valuable.
I am of more mature years and, my preferred popular music is from days gone by, but Helen, has always excelled, and nothing is too much trouble in locating all the old backing tracks, which I prefer to sing. I have recently made my own CD album with nine songs, which Helen recorded with her hi-tech equipment. She also printed a photo label and CD cover for the CD, which enabled me to distribute copies to my friends and family at Christmas. I am currently in the process of making a further album.
I would haver no hesitation in recommending Helen to anyone, as she is an excellent, encouraging and considerate teacher..
